NEWARK, N.Will Fuller V Jersey.J. - Henrik Lundqvist has done more than set a couple of franchise records for the New York Rangers this week. The Swedish goalie is keeping the Blueshirts in the thick of playoff contention. Lundqvist made 21 saves in posting his Rangers record 50th NHL shutout, and New York improved its playoff chances with a 2-0 victory over the fading New Jersey Devils on Saturday night. Lundqvists fifth shutout of the season broke a tie with Ed Giacomin for the career mark, and it came less than a week after he set the Rangers record for wins, eclipsing Mike Richter (301). "We might as well do it in one week so we dont have to talk about it for a while," Lundqvist said. "Just a great feeling. This game was so important, and the points were important." The win came just 24 hours after Lundqvist posted a 3-1 win over Columbus in a game between teams fighting for playoff positions in the Metropolitan Division. New York is in third place, four points in front of Columbus and one point behind Philadelphia. Both teams have played fewer games than the Rangers. "We are still in a position where we are fighting for our lives," Lundqvist said. "We have to keep pushing ourselves and have the mindset that every point could be the difference right now. Its going to be until the end, the last game. A lot of it is going to be mental, how we push each other and approach every game as a must win." Lundqvist has held opponents to two goals or fewer in 16 of his last 23 games, and he is 6-2 with two shutouts in his last eight starts. "Hes been tremendous," defenceman Ryan McDonagh said. "He has been in this position before. He is the leader on the back end, the backbone of our team. You can see it. He is talking a lot and making great efforts on second and third pucks around the crease. We need him to continue." Rick Nash scored his team-leading, eighth game winning goal and Derek Stepan added an empty-net, power-play tally with 8 seconds left to give the Rangers their third straight road win. New Jersey lost for the fourth time in five games and is in danger of missing the playoffs for the second straight year. "It was a tough one," said New Jerseys Martin Brodeur, who made 25 saves. "We played a good game out there. It was a chess match. Just kind of a fluky goal was decisive in this game. Its unfortunate." Lundqvist was good and lucky. He stopped Jaromir Jagr on a first-period breakaway and had a third-period shot in close go off the post. He also survived a wild goal-mouth scramble, with Jagr and Travis Zajac whacking at a loose puck with 39 seconds to play after the Devils pulled Brodeur while New York was on a power play The Rangers are nine points ahead of the Devils with 10 games left. New Jersey has a game in hand. Nash made it 1-0 at 10:33 of the second period on a shot from the left boards that seemed to catch Brodeur off guard after Rangers forward Chris Kreider was sent flying through the crease. Following a turnover in the Devils zone, Stepan attempted a cross-ice pass to Kreider as he cut toward the crease. The rookie was knocked off his feet and might have distracted Brodeur as he tumbled to the ice. The puck went to the side boards, and Nash fired in his 23rd goal before Brodeur could cover the bad-angle shot. "I took a peek first and saw he wasnt back yet," Nash said. "With him, hes a great goaltender so you have to shoot everything on net." Brodeur said he lost his bearing after bumping with Kreider. "Even now, I dont know where the puck went," he said. "I ran into the guy who was trying to get the tip-in, and by the time I recovered I think the puck was in." Lundqvist and Brodeur have been one of the best matchups in recent years in this series and they didnt disappoint. Lundqvist, who had very little to do early, faced his first shot when Jagr got a breakaway after taking a pass from his end. The 41-year-old forward tried to beat Lundqvist with a move from left to right. He then reached back with his stick to tuck the puck into the left corner. Lundqvist kept his pad on the ice and made the save. He also stopped Dainius Zubrus from between the circles midway through the period. Brodeurs best stops in the first period came late with a glove save on a screen shot by McDonagh and two saves on Marc Staal in the closing minutes. He was outstanding in the third period, particularly on a power play when Jagr was sent off for cross-checking. CHICAGO – There was a long slap shot, and then a nifty wraparound and a short-handed score off a 2-on-1 break.Damian Jones Jersey. Once the Chicago Blackhawks started rolling, Ray Emery never stood a chance. Duncan Keith and Andrew Shaw scored in a 39-second span at the start of Chicagos five-goal second period Wednesday night, sparking the Blackhawks to a 7-2 victory over Emery and the Philadelphia Flyers. Patrick Sharp had a goal and two assists for Chicago, which has won three in a row after a three-game losing streak. Michal Handzus scored a short-handed goal in the second and Marian Hossa had three assists, helping rookie goaltender Antti Raanta win his second consecutive start in place of injured Corey Crawford. "We have a quiet confidence we can score goals," Keith said. "Our talk in the room is more about playing the right way, being good defensively, being hard on pucks, checking well. We know our offence is going to take care of itself if we play that way." The seven goals set a season high for the Blackhawks (23-6-5), who have scored 19 times during their winning streak and lead the NHL with 129 goals. Shaws sharp wraparound at 1:22 of the second made it six players with at least 10 goals for the defending Stanley Cup champions, who are once again on top of the league standings with 51 points. "Its a credit to our team game," Sharp said. "We know weve got guys in here that can put up big numbers and score goals. But when were playing well in all three zones, thats when our offence usually clicks." Emery was pulled in the third period of his first start in Chicago since he teamed with Crawford to give the Blackhawks one of the best goaltending tandems in the league last season. Emery went 17-1 with a sparkling 1.94 goals-against average during his second year with Chicago and then signed a free-agent deal with Philadelphia in July. He received a standing ovation from the sellout crowd when he was recognized on the overhead scoreboard during the first period. But his ninth start of the season took a turn for the worse when Chicago turned up the pressure in the second. Jakub Voracek and Steve Downie scored power-play goals for the Flyers (13-15-3), who have lost three in a row and went 2-3-1 on a six-game road trip. "We made a few stupid mistakes," forward Wayne Simmonds said. "We werent looking behind our backs and when you play a team like that theyre going to capitalize." Voraceks wrister at 12:31 helped Philadelphia to a 1-0 lead after one period. The Blackhawks were coming off a 6-2 victory at Dallas on Tuesday night and looked a bit listless at the start of their first game against the Flyers since Jan. 5, 2012. That all changed in the second. Keith got it started with a big drive past Emery just 43 seconds into the period. Then came Shaws goal, and Handzus made it 3-1 when he scored his third on a break with Marcus Kruger. Downies third goal momentarily slowed the Blackhawks run. Kris Versteeg beat Emery off a terrific pass from Brandon Saad, and Sharps slap shot went off Jonathan Toews and in to make it 5-2 at 14:15. "Great second period for us," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said, "and it kind of went from there." Emery departed after Brent Seabrook scored on a slap shot 65 seconds into the third. Emery finished with 12 saves. "Youre going to be frustrated," Emery said. "Theres an old saying, You show me a good loser and Ill show you a loser." Raanta made 28 stops to improve to 5-0-1. He drew a large ovation from the crowd when he stopped Brayden Schenn and Michael Raffl on a pair of short-handed breakaways in rapid succession in the third. NOTES: Blackhawks F Bryan Bickell (lower body) skated Wednesday morning and could practice with the team on Friday. "Showed good progress," Quenneville said. … The Flyers scratched LW Tye McGinn and defencemen Erik Gustafsson and Hal Gill. … Defencemen Michael Kostka and Michal Rozsival, along with Crawford, were the Blackhawks scratches. CHICAGO – Max Scherzer already has a Cy Young Award.Bruce Carter Jersey. Now he has a complete game. Scherzer tossed a three-hitter in his 179th career start for his first complete game and Victor Martinez hit his 16th homer to lead the Detroit Tigers a 4-0 win over the Chicago White Sox. "Its awesome," said Scherzer, who threw 113 pitches. "I finally got the monkey off my back. "I was finally able to go nine and finish the deal, so its good feeling." Scherzer (8-2) was back in his 2013 Cy Young form, striking out eight and walking three while outdueling Chicago starter Chris Sale (5-1). Only three times did the White Sox have men in scoring position. "I was surprised when I found out that he had no complete games," Detroit manager Brad Ausmus said. "But he wanted this one for sure. He was on his game tonight. He has a Cy Young for reason." Sale was nearly as sharp as Scherzer. He struck out 10 – all swinging – to match a season high and allowed five hits in seven innings. "When you face Sale, youve got to bring your A" game," Scherzer said. "Theres no room for error." Martinez hit a solo shot into the left field bullpen to lead off the fifth for the only run off Sale. Miguel Cabrera drove in two runs with an infield single with two out in the eighth of reliever Jake Petricka to put the Tigers ahead 3-0. Bryan Holiday drove in an insurance run in the ninth. Sale didnt allow a baserunner until Rajai Davis led off the fourth with a single and left the game with Detroit leading 1-0. But Scherzer was a bit better. "He was dominant," Sale said of Scherzer. "You know coming into this, you know who youre going up against and its not going to be easy. "For a long time there, it was whos going to flinch first and unfortunately it was me." Scherzer had allowed 20 runs over 26 1-3 innings in his previous four starts, going 1-1. The right-hander pitched nine innings once before in a game, on Sept. 1, 2010, in 2-1 10-inning loss to Minnesota. Martinez, who entered the game second in the AL with .330 average, extended his hitting streak to seven games as the Tigers ended a three-game losing streak and won for just the third time in their last 11. By salvaging the final game of its rain-shortened series against the White Sox, first-place Detroit widened its AL Central lead to 2 1/2 games over idle Kansas City. Martinez is batting .327 against Chicago in 154 games with 24 homers and is 13 for 25 (.520) against Sale. Sale rebounded nicely from his previous start, a no-decision last Saturday in Anaheim when he took a three-hit shutout and 5-0 lead into the eighth against the Angels, but then fell apart. Scherzer walked Alejandro De Aza and Adam Eaton in the third for the games first two baserunners. But Gordon Beckham flew out deep to right to end the threat. Davis led off the fourth with the games first hit, a smashed, one-bounce single off the glove of White Sox third baseman Conor Gillaspie. But Sale picked Davis off during the next at-bat. NOTES: Sale struck out at least 10 and walked none for the third time in his career. .. Cabrera moved back to first base after a left hamstring pull restricted him to DH for two games. CF Austin Jackson entered the game with 10 hits in his last 20 at-bats – but is just 2-for-30 lifetime against Sale and didnt start. "Its just really a good time to give him (Jackson) a day off," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. "You want to give guys a day off, generally speaking, against pitchers they dont do as well against." Rajai Davis moved to centre field and J.D. Martinez starting in left. . Slumping Chicago C Tyler Flowers returned after sitting out Thursday. He entered the game 3 for his last 37. . NEW YORK – Pirates manager Clint Hurdle had good reason to call upon Gaby Sanchez to bat for Ike Davis.Zach Parise Team USA Hockey Jersey. Sanchez tagged the Mets again, delivering a pinch-hit home run in the eighth inning and a tiebreaking single in the ninth that rallied Pittsburgh over New York 5-3 on Monday. Sanchez has a .324 average with nine homers and 34 RBIs vs. New York, matching or topping his bests against any NL team. He lost playing time after Davis was acquired in a trade with the Mets in mid-April. "Ikes a good player and hes been swinging the bat really well. Hes been one of the hottest bats on the team. So, hes going to play and I understand that," Sanchez said about Davis, who was making his return to Citi Field. "My role is to keep that going whenever I get my chance, keep that going and help the team win." The Mets announced after their ninth loss in 12 games that they had fired hitting coach Dave Hudgens. New York also cut reliever Jose Valverde soon after he gave up Sanchezs go-ahead hit. Valverde (1-1) was booed off the field after allowing pinch-hitter Jose Tabatas tying single in the eighth. Valverde returned for the ninth and was even worse, yielding four runs overall. "Dont think for one second that theres not a guy in there that realizes that this is part of it. We just released one of the best professionals I ever been around in Jose Valverde," a fired-up Collins said. "You deal with it, and if you cant you dont belong in the game." Mets minor league hitting co-ordinator Lamar Johnson will take Hudgens place. Right-hander Vic Black is being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill Valverdes spot. With one out in the ninth, Valverde gave up a single to Neil Walker and walked Andrew McCutchen. Sanchez fouled off a fastball, losing hold of the bat, which spun toward the Pirates dugout and hit a batboy in the legs. The batboy smiled and on-deck hitter Russell Martin checked to see if he was OK. Sanchez then singled to left, scoring Walker. Juan Centeno couldnt handle Curtis Grandersons throw that bounced to the right of the plate and skittered past Valverde, who was backing up but way too close to the catcher. McCutchen scored on Grandersons error for a two-run lead. Martin added an RBI double for Pittsburgh, which rebounded from a loss to Washington on Sunday after a season-high four straight wins. "This mentality in the dugout is, This is the inning. Even if we get pushed down, the next inning well make something," Hurdle said. "Youve got to be relentless. You cant get sad." Tony Watson (5-0) pitched an inning for the win. Mark Melancon got his 10th save. Davis drew a warm reception from the Memorial Day crowd of 29,309, opposite of what he predicted during a pregame chat in the visitors dugout. Popular with fans in his four-plus seasons, he went 0 for 2 with a walk. Slumping Lucas Duda homered off Melancon to start the ninth. The homer was the first off Melancon in 86 innings, since April 14, 2013. New York took a 2-0 lead in the fifth on Daniel Murphys single, Pittsburghs third error of the game and a favourable review under the new home plate collision rule. But the Mets bullpen wasted a fine start by Jacob deGrom. The 25-year-old deGrom pitched 6 2-3 scoreless innings in his third career start, allowing five hits. He laboured early but settled in to throw 122 pitches. Brandon Cumpton was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take the place of Wandy Rodriguez, who was designated for assignment Thursday, and matched deGrom into the fifth. With the help of an umpires review, New York took the lead. The Mets two-out rally was started by – who else? – deGrom. He lined a single to left field for his second hit of the day and advanced when Juan Lagares walked. A college shortstop, deGrom is now 4 for 5 as a big league batter. "I guess Ive been seeing the ball pretty well," deGrom said. Murphy lined a single to right field and deGrom scored easily. Josh Harrisons throw to third skipped passed third baseman Pedro Alvarez and Lagares scampered home. The ball took a good bounce back to Alvarez off the protective fence in front of the Pirates dugout and he made a quick throw home. Martin set up to the left of home plate but stuck his leg out, blocking Lagares path before the ball arrived. Umpire Laz Diaz initially called Lagares out, but Colliins asked crew chief Jeff Nelson to review the play under new rule 7.13, covering collisions at the plate. After a delay of 3 minutes, 4 seconds, Lagares was called safe and Murphy was awarded second base on the play home. "Weve encouraged our guys to play the game, do what you feel athletically moved to do knowing what the options are," Hurdle said. They recalled OF Matt den Dekker from Triple-A Las Vegas to take his place. … The Pirates designated RHP Vin Mazzaro for assignment to make room for Cumpton. … Up Next: Pirates RHP Edinson Volquez (2-4) faces Mets LHP Jonathon Niese (3-3) on Tuesday night.Ryan Kesler Jersey. NEW YORK – Capitals rookie Tom Wilson will not be fined or suspended for his hit on Flyers forward Brayden Schenn, the NHL determined after a disciplinary hearing Thursday. Vice-president of player safety Brendan Shanahan explained that decision in a three-minute video posted on the leagues website designed to lay out the case for why Wilson did not get further discipline beyond a five-minute charging penalty and game misconduct. Shanahan said Wilson was not punished for boarding because Schenn began to turn his back to try to avoid contact after looking back at the Washington winger. It was the NHL department of player safetys determination that Schenn turning "actually contributes to making this hit worse." In looking at the charging aspect of the hit, Shanahan went into a lengthy explanation of how teams forecheck. Even though Wilson skated directly from the bench to hit Schenn, Shanahan said most of that distance was travelled in "typical forechecking fashion." As for the hhit itself, Shanahan said it was shoulder to shoulder, crediting Wilson for staying low throughout the course of delivering it.Erik Johnson Team USA Hockey Jersey. Schenn left the game but the team said he did not have a concussion. He was in Philadelphias lineup Thursday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Capitals contended from Tuesday night on that Wilsons hit was not dirty. "We agree with the leagues position that it was a clean hit," Capitals general manager George McPhee said in a statement released through a team spokesman. "There should not have been a penalty on the play. It was a punishing hit, not predatory or otherwise illegal. Under our current rules, punishing but clean hits are permitted. We are happy that Tom Wilson was vindicated and Brayden Schenn is not injured." Wilson, a Toronto native, has no history of supplemental discipline during his first NHL season. HOUSTON – Javier Morales scored three times to lead Real Salt Lake past a 10-man Houston Dynamo 5-2 Sunday night to extend their unbeaten streak to 10 games to start the season.New York Jets Jerseys. Alvaro Saborio added a goal, and Luke Mulholland scored late in the second half for Salt Lake (5-0-5). Mark Sherrod scored twice for Houston (4-5-2), which had its three-game unbeaten streak snapped. Morales gave Salt Lake a 1-0 lead just 15 seconds into the match, settling a Saborio pass and firing inside the upper left post. The goal was the quickest scored in Real Salt Lake history and fourth-fastest in MLS history. New Yorks Tim Cahill scored the fastest goal in MLS history 7 seconds in against Houston on Oct. 23, 2013. Morales scored again in the 17th minute to make it 2-0. Off a corner kick, Ned Grabavoy sent a header from the upper box toward the goalkeepers box where Morales deflected it with his right foot high into the net. Morales added his third goal in the 89th minute on a penalty kick, delaying and then hitting his shot inside the near post as Tally Hall went to his right. Salt Lake earned the penalty kick after Hall pulled down Devon Sandoval in the box. Sherrod cut the lead in half in the 22nd minute with his first professional goal. Off a Brad Davis corner kick, Sherrod headed it inside the near post. Saborio upped the lead to 3-1 in the 32nd minute with a sliding header from the right box that found the net off a cross from Mulholland. Sherrod cut the lead to 3-2 in the 56th minute, slicing a shot from the left box just inside the near post and past the hands of a diving Nick Rimando after a Salt Lake turnover. Mulholland extended the lead back to two in the 78th minute, taking a Morales pass in the upper box, getting around a sliding Hall and sending one in the empty net from the right box. United finds itself in a fine run of form of late with Louis van Gaals men riding a four-match winning streak in Premier League play coming into Mondays tilt. Van Persie found the back of the net in the 12th and 70th minutes to propel the Red Devils into third place in the table with 28 points from 15 games played. The visitors opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Wayne Rooney played a through ball into the Southampton half that was corralled by Southampton defender Jose Fonte, but he flubbed his back-pass to goalkeeper Fraser Forster, allowing Van Perise to slide it into the bottom right corner with a delicate finish. The hosts pulled back the equalizer in the 31st minute when Graziano Pelle latched onto a blocked shot from Victor Wanyamma and rocketed it into the roof of the net, leaving United goalkeeper David De Gea with no chance for a save.Steve McLendon Jersey. . But the Red Devils found the winning tally with 20 minutes to play via some nice set-piece execution. Rooney sent a well-struck free kick toward the back post where Van Perise got free and tapped it home with a second deft finish. Southampton pushed for another tying goal and had an excellent chance with 13 minutes to play when Pelle let a strike go from the left side of the pitch with pace, but De Gea got down quickly for an impressive save to keep his side in the ascendency. The fourth officials board showed four minutes of added time, but United did an excellent job of keeping the ball and not letting Southampton get close to goal as the Red Devils claimed an important three points. CLEVELAND - Michael Bourn hopes his time out of the lineup is a short one.Garry Gilliam Jersey. Bourn, the Indians centre fielder and leadoff hitter, is sidelined again by a hamstring injury that has lingered for several months. He had to leave Saturdays game against the Chicago White Sox when the hamstring tightened up while he was running to first on a bunt hit in the fourth inning. Bourn had surgery on his hamstring in October. He re-injured it in spring training, forcing him to begin the season on the disabled list before being activated on April 15. Nyjer Morgan, who began the season as Bourns replacement, was recalled from Triple-A Columbus, and is playing centre and batting leadoff Sunday. Bourn, who missed the seasons first 15 games, said he hopes to play again in a few days. Hes optimistic he wont need a return trip to the DL. "I dont think it is, but I cant tell you for sure," he said. Indians manager Terry Francona said the teams training staff told him theres a chance Bourn will be able to play Monday. "That might be a little ambitious, but if theyre saying that, its a very good sign," Francona said. Francona understands the concern that Bourns hamstring issue wont go away. "Hes actually been running pretty well," Francona said. "I dont see him favouring it. I see him in the outfield going all out and not holding back, but he did feel it (Saturday). Im glad he was smart enough to say something. I dont know. Hopefully this is something he works through." Bourn is batting .266 with six runs, two stolen bases and four RBIs in 15 games. Morgan batted .348 with three steals, four runs and four RBIs in nine games. He was sent down when Bourn came off the DL. Designated hitter Jason Giambi also left Saturdays game with a cramp in his right calf and wasnt in Sundays lineup. Clevelands injury list gets longer by the day. Sutter stretched the Carolina lead to 3-1 with 5:51 to go with the second of his NHL career and first since his debut on Dec. 23, 2008 – a span of 50 games. Staal was left uncovered in front as the puck was in the Islanders end, and Patrick Dwyer got it to him for a slam-dunk goal. "I just gave a quick yell, and Patty just threw it in an area and was fortunate enough to get it to me," Staal said. "From there I just closed my eyes and shot it as hard as I could." That put the Hurricanes in front 2-1, and they werent caught again thanks to the stellar play of Anton Khudobin, who made 38 saves. Khudobin improved to 4-0, including wins in back-to-back games. He is showing fine form after sitting out 32 games this season due to injury. The Hurricanes havent missed injured top goalie Cam Ward, and others such as Sutter filled in well to cover for players on the shelf. Carolina might now be without captain Eric Staal, who left the game with an injury and didnt return. His status for Sundays game against Nashville isnt yet known. "We had a couple of big games from a few different guys, and then just steady hockey from everyone else," said Jordan Staal, Erics brother. "There is not a whole lot of mistakes being made. We stuck with what we do." Manny Malhotra staked the Hurricanes to a 1-0 lead when he scored for a third straight game, connecting at 6:57 of the second with his fourth goal. John Tavares answered 44 seconds later with his 17th for the Islanders, and Thomas Vanek scored with 24.2 seconds remaining, but New York had a season-best, three-game winning streak broken. The Hurricanes improved to 23-5-5 in the last 33 meetings with the Islanders and 16-2-4 in the past 22. Carolina is certainly not intimidated by Nassau Coliseum as the Hurricanes aare 11-1-2 there in their past 14 visits.Zane Beadles Jersey. "Its funny how it matches with team vs. team," Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller said. "Theyve got a good hockey team and theyre a good skating team. We kind of feel like that is our style, as well." Khudobin improved to 4-0, including wins in back-to-back games. Evgeni Nabokov stopped 27 shots for New York. Carolina took its first lead when Andrew MacDonald had the puck taken away behind his net by Dwyer, who made a quick pass out front to Malhotra for the goal that left Nabokov shaking his head. The edge later grew to 3-1 after another turnover by New York, this time in the neutral zone. The Hurricanes quickly transitioned to offence, and Jeff Skinner fired a shot that was stopped by Nabokov, but Sutter put in the rebound. "We have some bad breakdowns," Tavares said. "We made it too easy for them. We didnt make them earn it." Tavares finished a give-and-go with Vanek following a Carolina turnover to briefly get the Islanders even at 1. New York had chances in the first as prized rookie Ryan Strome was denied on a good save by Khudobin during a power play. He threw his head back in frustration as he is still searching for his first NHL goal after 10 games. Vaneks goal made it close, but it wasnt enough. "At the end, when the score was 3-1, I knew they were going to come," Khudobin said. "They were shooting everything and everywhere." Kyle Okposo, who scored the overtime winner on Thursday against Chicago, deftly darted and weaved through the Carolina zone with 2:41 left in the first. He got Khudobin down on his side, but fired a drive into the prone goalies glove. "We gave them all three of their goals," Okposo said. "We had a lot of chances, had our opportunities thats for sure. But you have to give credit to their goaltender." NOTES: Okposo had a career-high, eight-game point streak snapped. Vanek has an eight-game point streak. … Forward Riley Nash both missed their second straight game with injuries. … The Hurricanes have outscored opponents 50-38 in the second period but have been outscored in the first and third. … Skinner has 10 points in six games.Cheap NFL JerseysCheap NFL Jerseys ChinaCheap Jerseys From ChinaCheap NFL Jerseys AuthenticWholesale Jerseys ChinaCheap NFL Jerseys ChinaNFL Cheap Jerseys' ' '

PRETORIA, South Africa - Months before he killed his girlfriend, Oscar Pistorius said he drew his gun and went into "combat mode" after thinking he heard the noise of an intruder at his home, which turned out to be a washing machine, a South African guns expert testified Monday at the athletes murder trial.Josh Hart Jersey. Sean Rens also said Pistorius wanted to buy seven more guns in 2012 — to add to the 9 mm pistol he already owned for self-defence — and asked the firearm trainer to procure them for him under a gun collectors permit. The guns included a semi-automatic assault rifle, three shotguns, another self-loading rifle and two Smith & Wesson handguns. Rens, the manager of the International Firearm Training Academy in Walkerville, south of Johannesburg, produced one invoice that included five of the guns and nearly 600 hundred rounds of ammunition made out in Pistorius name. That total price came to nearly $5,000 and Pistorius had already paid around $4,500 of the bill, the invoice showed. The order was cancelled after Pistorius shot dead girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in early 2013, Rens said. The remaining two guns were contained on a second invoice, the firearm dealer said. Rens also said he had many conversations about firearms with Pistorius, who is accused of murder in Steenkamps shooting death on Valentines Day last year. Rens said the double-amputee runner had "a great love and enthusiasm" for guns. Rens met Pistorius in 2012, he testified, and trained with him at a gun range. In one conversation, Pistorius described how he was startled by a noise at home and decided to clear the house by drawing his gun and checking rooms, according to Rens. "He went into what we call code red or combat mode," Rens said. "When he came to the source of the noise, it was the laundry or something." Pistorius tweeted about the incident in November 2012: "Nothing like getting home to hear the washing machine on and thinking its (sic) an intruder to go into full combat recon mode into the pantry!" Pistorius said he killed Steenkamp by accident before dawn on Feb. 14, 2013, shooting her through a toilet door after mistaking her for an intruder in his home. Prosecutors say he killed her intentionally after an argument and also questioned Rens on Pistorius firearm training. Prosecutor Gerrie Nel asked Rens to describe how Pistorius was quizzed on how to handle a firearm in various scenarios, for example when two unidentified men approach the house of a gun owner; then when they break into the house, begin to steal belongings and order the gun owner to leave; and if the men threaten to kill the gun owner, who is behind a security gate in the house. In each case, Rens said, Pistorius was asked if it was OK to fire at the men and Pistorius correctly answered "No." Pistorius correctly said he was only entitled to shoot at them if they advanced on him with a gun, according to Rens. Nel was trying to show that Pistorius flouted the regulations that he knew when he shot Steenkamp. Pistorius says he fired because he thought he was under threat. Rens said he was introduced to Pistorius in May 2012, a few months before the runner made history by competing at the London Olympics. Pistorius first wanted Rens to find a "specific" gun for him, Rens testified, a Smith & Wesson 500 revolver handgun. Rens also listed the other guns Pistorius was hoping to procure under a collectors license. They were a .38-calibre Smith & Wesson revolver, the civilian version of a Vector .223-calibre assault rifle used by South African police, another self-loading semi-automatic rifle and three shotguns. Pistorius applied to the South African polices National Firearms Centre for the licenses for six of these guns on Jan. 22, 2013, according to the centres records, just three weeks before he shot dead Steenkamp in his home using his 9 mm Parabellum pistol, which he already licensed for self-defence. Pistorius applications were not processed and were instead "sent back" four days after he killed Steenkamp, officials at the South African polices National Firearms Center told The Associated Press last year. In later testimony Monday, police photographer Bennie van Staden spoke about the images he took when he arrived at Pistorius house on the night of the killing. One photograph of the runner, taken in his garage, showed unexplained scuff marks on his bloodied prosthetic limbs. Another from the Paralympians bedroom showed a box with a label that said "Testis compositum." The runners representatives have identified the substance as an herbal remedy used for "muscle recovery." A product by that name also is sold as a sexual enhancer and contains the testicles, heart and embryo of pigs, among other ingredients. Some retailers also say it can be used to treat fatigue. Also found in the bedroom was a box with the label "Coenzyme compositum" as well as syringes and needles. Steenkamps mother, June, was in the Pretoria courtroom for a second time Monday but had left by the time van Staden was describing some photos being displayed of the bloody bathroom scene where her daughter was shot. NEW YORK – Brandon Prust returns but fellow forward Dale Weise is out and defenceman Alexei Emelin is a game-time decision for the Montreal Canadiens.Lane Taylor Jersey. The Rangers are without suspended defenceman John Moore, with ex-Hab Raphael Diaz expected to play in his place in the third defensive pairing. Both teams had lineup issues ahead of Game 6 of the Eastern Conference final. A win and the Rangers can advance to the Stanley Cup final for the first time in 20 years. A loss and New York has to go back to the Bell Centre for a deciding game. Montreal coach Michel Therrien confirmed after Thursdays morning skate that Weise, flattened by the hit that earned Moore a two-game suspension, would not play. Emelin, who missed Game 5 with an undisclosed injury, did not take part in the morning skate either but was seen on an exercise bike outside the locker-room. Prust returns from his two-game suspension for breaking Derek Stepans jaw with a blindside hit in Game 3. "Hes going to be hungry to play," said Therrien. "Hes going to play hard. Hes excited about playing tonight so were glad hes back in the lineup." Weise seemed woozy after the Moore hit Tuesday in Game 5 but returned to action after spending time in the dressing room. On Thursday, Therrien denied that Weise had a head injury. Therrien said Weise, who plays in the Habs third line, told doctors he "felt fine" about finishing the last game. The Montreal coach said player safety is Job 1, but noted that Stepan finished Game 3 with what turned out to be a broken jaw. "Those are the things that you see at this time of the year," he said. "Right now (Weise) has a body injury so he wont be able to lay tonight." Asked what specific tests an injured player like Weise has to pass to get back into the game, Therrien essentially said that was up to the team doctors. "Those are the things I that dont know, because as a coach I never get a concussion," said a smiling Therrien. "But one thing I trust, we trust our medical staff, we trust the doctor. So when theyre saying hes good to go. hes good to go." The Habs are 22-7-4 with Weise in the lineup and 5-4-0 without him. Goalie Carey Price, knocked out of the series in Game 1, came onto the ice in full gear near the end of the Canadiens skate. He did the same thing earlier this week in Montreal. Dustin Tokarski, the 24-year-old who has stepped in for Price, did not speak to reporters Thursday. Rangers starter Henrik Lundqvist, given the hook last time out, drew a crowd in front of his stall. With the Rangers looking to close out the series, the music wafting out of the New York locker-room area earlier at Madison Square Garden was appropriate – "Closing Time" by Semisonic. "No Canada" was the headline on the back page of the New York Daily News. The kicker read "Rangers: We cant let series go back to Montreal." The New York Post headline was "Code Blue." Much has been said about the need to get a good start in the series, with Therrien acknowledging the first 10 minutes of the game are always crucial. "But Im going to tell you something, the whole entire 60 minutes are going to be really important," he said with a smile. Vigneault, whose exchange with the English media lasted three and a half minutes, offered no reaction to the league banning Moore for two games. He also did not want to speak about the 7-4 loss in Game 5 in Montreal, saying "Weve moved on." The Rangers coach did say he expected a big game from Lundqvist, who was pulled in the second period last time out after giving up four goals on 19 shots. "I expect him to play like he always does. Hes a great goaltender." Said Rangers forward Rick Nash: "Hes a world-class goalie. Hes been our best player all season, all the playoffs." Therriens pre-game meeting with the media was equally pithy, lasting just under eight minutes in English and French.Morgan Burnett Jersey. Alina Fodorova of Ukraine took third place. Samir Nasris 88th-minute equalizer at Etihad Stadium will be of little consolation to City, which is now six points behind league leader Liverpool and four points behind second-place Chelsea. Third-place City has a game in hand but the surprise result against Sunderland, coupled with Sundays 3-2 loss at Liverpool, may be a setback too far in its bid for a second championship in three seasons. "I think we are more mentally tired than physically tired," said City manager Manuel Pellegrini, who is still not giving up hope. "Remember this team, two years ago, were six points behind the leaders and … won the title at the end. So it is difficult, but it is not the last game we play." Pressure also seems to have struck Evertons battle for the last Champions League spot with Arsenal. Everton became the latest team to slip up against Crystal Palace, losing 3-2 at home to end its seven-match winning run and miss the chance of reclaiming fourth place from Arsenal, which is one point ahead with four matches remaining. "We wanted to win so much that we stopped being ourselves," Everton manager Roberto Martinez said, "and that is what we have to learn from." Palaces fourth straight win means the side can surely start preparing for another season in the top flight and lends further weight to many pundits argument that Tony Pulis is the manager of the season. When Pulis took over in November, Palace was bottom and six points from safety – now, it is 11th and 10 points above the relegattion zone.Blake Martinez Jersey. Sunderland is six points from safety with a game in hand, but could have been a lot closer if goalkeeper Vito Mannone had gathered Nasris shot rather than fumbled it into the back of the net. That could be the difference between staying in the Premier League and being relegated. "Its one more blow," Sunderland manager Gus Poyet said. "I tell you what, Im testing my heart this year." Without the injured David Silva and Yaya Toure and with star striker Sergio Aguero lacking match sharpness, City lacked its usual creativity going forward and was sloppy in possession. Fernandinho gave City the lead in the second minute, running onto a short pass from Aguero that was dummied by Alvaro Negredo and scoring inside Mannones near post, but Sunderland had the better of the chances for the rest of the first half. Connor Wickham finally took one of them in the 73rd minute, volleying in a cross from substitute Emanuele Giaccherini, and the same players combined for Wickhams second that came on the counter-attack in the 83rd. City escaped with a point thanks to Nasri, but Liverpool and Chelsea will be celebrating another twist in the title race. "We believe we can win the title," Fernandinho said. "Chelsea and Liverpool have four games and they may drop some points – we think we can still win the title." At Goodison Park, Jason Puncheon scored his fourth goal in three games before Scott Dann added a second for Palace for a 2-0 lead after 49 minutes. Substitute Steven Naismith reduced the deficit in the 61st before Palace restored their two-goal advantage through striker Cameron Jerome in the 73rd. OAKLAND, Calif.Aldrick Rosas Jersey. – Kenneth Faried made a turnaround hook shot over Draymond Green with a half-second remaining, and the Denver Nuggets made Golden State wait at least one more game to secure a playoff berth with a stunning 100-99 win over the Warriors on Thursday night. Stephen Currys floater over Faried put the Warriors up 99-98 with 4.7 seconds to play, sending the announced sellout crowd of 19,596 roaring to their feet. Faried quieted fans moments later, backing down Green for the winning shot. Currys quick 30-footer rimmed off as time expired. Timofey Mozgov tied a career high of 23 points and set a career best with 29 rebounds, and Faried finished with 18 points and 17 boards to rally the Nuggets from 20 points down in the first half. Denver, which had lost six straight on the road, won both games at Golden State this season. Curry had 24 points and seven assists, and Klay Thompson scored 21 points to highlight an otherwise disappointing performance by the Warriors. The Nuggets outrebounded Golden State 63-38 and made all the big plays late. Mozgov made a step-back jumper from 17 feet before Darrell Arthurs 3-pointer gave the Nuggets an 83-80 lead – their first lead of the game – with 7:52 left. After going down by five, Thompson and Curry highlighted an 8-0 spurt to put the Warriors up 93-90. Randy Foye followed with a layup and a 3-pointer to put the Nuggets in front. Thompson missed a jumper, then Faried stole a rebound from Andrew Bogut and put it back for a layup that extended Denvers lead to 97-93. Curry came back with two free throws before Faried made 1 of 2 from the line. Curry forced another foul and made both free throws shots to slice Denvers lead to 98-97 with 35.9 seconds left. Following another Nuggets miss, Curry came off a screen from Green and floated a go-ahead runner over Faried with 4.7 seconds left that seemingly put the Warriors in the playoffs. Instead, the Nuggets called timeout and went right after the undersized Green, who has been starting at power forward for the injured David Lee. Faried backed Green down and floated in a hook shot that silenced the blue-and-gold clad crowd for good. The Warriors were trying to clinch a spot in the playoffs in consecutive years for the first time since the 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons and improve their playoff position. Instead, Golden State (48-30) fell 2 1/2 games behind fifth-place Portland with four games to play, including one at the Trail Blazers on Sunday. Golden State is 1 1/2 games ahead of Phoenix and Dallas and two ahead of Memphis. Denver, which was eliminated in Game 6 of the opening round of the playoffs at Golden State last season, made sure they didnt have to watch the Warriors celebrate against them on the same floor again. With injuries sideling six Nuggets regulars, the Warriors overwhelmed Denvers decimated team at the start to go ahead by 20 points in the second quarter. But the Nuggets came back behind Mozgov and Faried, trailing Golden State 53-43 at the half and 75-73 through three quarters before holding off the warriors in the fourth. NOTES: The Warriors missed a chance to win 49 games for the first time since winning 50 in the 1993-94 season. … Lee missed his seventh straight game for the Warriors with a nerve injury in his right hamstring/back. The Thunder earned the Game 1 win with a 100-86 victory Saturday night. Oklahoma City dominated the first half and led by 22 at the break, but saw its lead shrink to just two points in the fourth quarter. With the NBA season fast approaching, we asked TSN NBA experts Jack Armstrong, Josh Lewenberg and Duane Watson a few burning questions about the year ahead.Today we ask, will the Toronto Raptors make the playoffs and should that even be the goal? Lewenbergs take: Whether theyre willing to admit it or not – and they wont – Playoffs are absolutely the goal this season assuming the roster stays, more or less, as is. The team is smartly tempering expectations this fall after recklessly throwing around the P-word a year ago. However, the unspoken reality is this; as long as theyre paying top dollar for this group – hovering just below the tax – and as long as theres legitimate playoff-caliber talent on the roster, which there is, they will be expected to break the franchises five-year postseason drought. Anything less would amount to another disappointing season. Of course its not that simple, with the Raptors it rarely is. If the team gets off to another slow start and/or if its opportunistic new GM decides the time is right to pull the trigger, this roster could change in a hurry, and so too could the goal. Assuming Ujiri stays the course, and assuming good health (both generous assumptions), a postseason berth is attainable in the top-heavy Eastern Conference. Barring injuries, the Easts top five (Miami, Chicago, Indiana, Brooklyn, New York) should be untouchable but 37-41 wins – a realistic expectation for the Raps – should keep them in the mix for the six-to-eight seeds with Detroit, Cleveland, Atlanta and now Washington. Watsons take: Every teams goal should be to improve and compete for a championship. Despite their poor start last year, they were in the hunt for a playoff spot, with their strong finish. With a full training camp to build more chemistry, and teams getting a head start on tanking (Celtics and 76ers), the Raptors prospects are even brighter. Will they be fodder for the top team in the conference? Likely, but those are growth steps they have to take to get better; a losing franchise doesnt get better with more losses. Masai Ujiri, is evaluating what pieces will be part of the future and will make the necessary moves needed to improve the team. Hes proven he can finesse crafty deals in his favour in the past, with the Nene, Carmelo Anthony and Andrea Bargnani trades, and can do it again. Jacks take: I think the Raptors have as good a chance of making the Playoffs in slots 6-8 as any of the other Eastern Conference Teams beyond Miami, Brooklyn, Chicago, Indiana & New York. The goal every year is to win and they owe it to their wonderful/loyal fan base, season ticket holders, sponsors and, most importantly, to themselves to lay it on the line and put their best foot forward. There is so much discussion about tanking and getting a top draft pick in a deep class - I understand where some fans are coming from - but there are no guarantees in anything. After five seasons with no Playoffs, I know Im tired of watching other teams in mid-April and beyond. Youve got to be in it to win it. Jacks keys to the Raptors making the Playoffs: Good Health: The Raptors musst keep the top-8 guys healthy.Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Jersey. Backup Point Guard Play: Someone has to emerge here and Ive yet to see any sign of steady backup play here yet. Kyle Lowry might end up being like a baseball pitcher who has to throw 200+ innings in a season. If that is the case, so be it. Id rather a guy burn out any day. Improved 3-point shooting and 3-point defending: It goes both ways. The Raptors just need to be respectable shooting from distance and just as important: they must limit the clean looks and number of threes from their opponents. Defensive Identity: Dwane Casey can coach/teach X&O Defense with great success. I have faith it that. The key is for this team to be consistent with its effort and attention to detail in this category and limit the silly fouls that give up easy points. Be fundamentally sound. Aggressive yet smart. Sophomores: Jonas Valanciunas and Terence Ross have to make that next step in their games. There is a major investment in these guys and the talent is there. They need to produce with consistency. Heavy Minutes for the Starters: Every chance I get Im playing my starters in all the prime moments of every game. Its kind of like double shifting your stars in Hockey. The key is Game Night and Winning. If that means 40+ minutes for your starters some nights and giving them down time on practice days, so be it. Guys love the games and hate practices anyway. Players 6-15 on the roster have to be doing something very good to stay on the floor for an extended time. At the very least 2-3 starters should always be on the floor with the reserves to maintain a high level. People criticize Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau for over-using his prime guys. I love it. Less is more in my book. If youre tired, too bad, rest in the spring time. I love what Dwane Casey did in the last three weeks of the season last year, he loaded up his better players with increased minutes. For this team to be a playoff team, the starters have to play longer. Situational Basketball: Lots of games will come down to the fourth Quarter and the final three minutes. The Raps struggled in this area for a variety of reasons last season. This has to become a strength. Dwane Casey and his staff have spent good time on this and I think this area will improve this season. Having Rudy Gay in the defining moments of a game for a whole season will help. The little details have to be executed well. Winning Early in the Season: Every game early is big. The Raptors need to get off to a good start. They need to develop a winning cushion of being a few games above .500 rather than below. Last Years 4-19 struggle to open the year cant happen. Ask Jays fans: Lousy Spring and youve dug yourself a big hole vs. the Red Sox start–look where they ended up. Im not sure how good the Toronto Maple Leafs really are, but theyve already developed the cushion and thats huge. Believe me–you win early and the referees look at you differently and you start getting the benefit of the doubt unlike last year when every defining call went against them. You make your own breaks.
